Meet Catie Marie -an expressive artist in many mediums- as she explains how she got her start, how nature has influenced her, and how you should never compare your work to someone else's
What would you say you do, creatively speaking?
Creatively speaking, I express my own or others visions using different mediums. From painting, to graphic design, drawing and photography; each medium displays different results, different feelings.
When and how did you start?
I started creating when I was a little girl. For as long as I can remember I've always drawn and painted. My grandfather was a painter, so I've always been surrounded by the arts. In middle school is when I started getting interested into photography. But it wasn't until a few years after I started college when I started to really dive into my passion and focus on it wholeheartedly.
Who all has supported you?
My family has been my biggest supporter. But this community here has shown me time and time again it's love and support for all the arts.
Who or what are you inspired or influenced by?
I am influenced strongly by the natural elements, for nature has always given me a sense of peace. Most of my work is inspired by images and palettes that display serenity and splashes of color. I've been through some very dark times in my life, as we all have, which is why I focus on what I believe we're all searching for; a glimpse of hope, a spark of joy even for a moment, light at the end of the tunnel.
What has been your favorite part?
My favorite part has been the joy I see in others when they're viewing my pieces, I see them smile, or their eyes light up, they get excited. Seeing clients or viewers happy makes me happy.
What would you tell someone who wants to start selling their work?
If someone is wanting to start selling their art, I'd say do it. Start now. Do your research first, but do not hesitate. Do not overthink, do not rely on sales for validation of your worth, and please do not ever compare your work to someone else's. Be patient with yourself and the process, and never stop creating for you.
What are your dreams?
My dream is to live a life fully, unapologetically, creating for those around me to give joy, to inspire, to ignite a fire within them to do the same, in whatever way that makes them whole.
